TALAHASSEE, Fla. (WLBT) - A late-game surge by the Florida State Seminoles has ended Mississippi State’s season.
On Sunday, the Bulldogs fell to FSU in the Tallahassee Regional 5-2 in an emotionally charged game where three were ejected.
MSU (36-23) took a 2-0 lead with home runs from senior Gehrig Frei in the first and senior Joe Powell in the fifth, and were able to hold the Noles scoreless through six innings.
However, the Seminoles tied it up in the bottom of the seventh on a home run and an RBI off the bat of sophomore Cal Fisher. Florida State tacked on three more in the bottom of the eighth.
The loss caps a disappointing season for the Bulldogs, which was marked by the firing of seventh-year Head Coach Chris Lemonis four years removed from winning the College World Series.
