HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WLBT) - The Golden Eagles avenged their earlier postseason loss to Columbia, clobbering the Lions 8-1 Sunday to stay alive in the Hattiesburg Regional.

The University of Southern Mississippi baseball team (46-15) extended its postseason run in an elimination game against the Ivy League ball team at Pete Taylor Park.

The game was close early on, with Southern Miss drawing first blood in the opening inning. The Lions (30-19) went on to tie up the bottom of the second.

Those would be the only points scored until freshman Drey Barrett capitalized on a throwing error in the sixth inning to give Southern Miss the lead.

The Golden Eagles added one more run in the seventh, before an eighth-inning home run by junior Ben Higdon with two on base put the No. 16 seed up by five.
