LAPORTE — A pursuit led by a Porsche along the local stretch of Interstate 94 resulted in the arrest of a 31-year-old Michigan man on numerous charges including auto theft, according to LaPorte County police.

Police said they attempted to stop the westbound Porsche around 5:15 p.m. Thursday for several alleged traffic violations when the driver sped off.

The driver, later identified as Shay Palmer, began passing a line of vehicles merging into a construction zone and in doing so, struck the rear of a van, police said.

The Porsche drove off the highway to the north and after stopping in a ditch, Palmer allegedly fled the scene on foot, according to police.

Officers said they formed a perimeter around the area and took Palmer into custody.
