JACKSON TOWNSHIP — Porter County police say a rear-end collision along U.S. 6 Friday afternoon forced one of the vehicles into oncoming traffic, which resulted in the earlier report of two motorcyclists dying.
An initial investigation revealed that a 2023 Audi Q7P was slowing along eastbound U.S. 6 in the area of White Thorne Lane with its left turn signal activated when it was rear ended by a 2017 Nissan Rogue, police said.
The collision forced the Audi into the westbound lane of the highway, police said, where it collided with two motorcycles.
Police said they arrived on scene around 1:47 p.m. to find both motorcyclists dead.
"Lifesaving measures were attempted, but were unsuccessful," according to police.
