PERU — A 13-year-old girl was injured severally enough Sunday to be flown out for care after falling from and being struck by an off-road vehicle driven by a 10-year-old, according to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.
Emergency officials were called out around 3:30 p.m. Sunday to the site, which is located southeast of the Region.
A preliminary investigation revealed the side-by-side vehicle was being driven by a 10-year-old in a field when the 13-year-old passenger was looking over the door toward the ground, the DNR reported.
The girl fell from the vehicle and was then struck by it, officials said.
"The passenger was conscious when first responders arrived and was airlifted to Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis with head injuries," according to the DNR.
