SYRACUSE — A 4-year-old boy is dead after wandering away Sunday from a home he was visiting and later being found in a nearby lake, according to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.
The drowning occurred in Syracuse Lake in Kosciusko County, which is located east of the Region.
A 911 call was received around 4:45 p.m. Sunday about the missing boy, the DNR said.
Local police reportedly arrived minutes later and removed the child from beneath a pier in 3 feet of water. Life saving efforts were taken, but the child reportedly died after being taken to an area hospital.
"The child was believed to have been last seen 20 minutes before being pulled from the water," officials said.
