VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - An officer with the Virginia Beach Police Department was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence following an early morning crash over the weekend, VBPD confirmed to WAVY.

Officers responded to the 2300 block of Huckleberry Trl. on June 1 at 3:48 a.m. for the report of a crash.

After an investigation, officers arrested 42-year-old James Rasmussen.

A spokesperson for VBPD confirmed Rasmussen is currently employed with the police department. He was hired on June 29, 2023.

VBPD said Rasmussen’s duty status is under review.
