MERCED COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - A short pursuit with officers came to an end near the Merced-Castle Airport after a motorcyclist crashed Saturday evening, Merced CHP announced.

According to the California Highway Patrol, just before 8 p.m., they attempted to stop a Suzuki GSX-R1000 on Santa Fe Drive who was traveling 87 mph in a 25 MPH zone with an obstructed license plate.

Officers say a pursuit ensued after the 48-year-old motorcyclist failed to stop. However, the pursuit was cut short after the rider crashed at Wallace Road and Hospital Avenue.

After searching his belongings, CHP reports locating a loaded ghost gun and a bag of meth.

Officers report the man was booked on multiple felony charges, including DUI while on drugs, evading an officer, and illegally possessing a firearm
