Bond denied for Hattiesburg first-degree murder suspect; victim identified

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WDAM) - Bond has been denied for the suspect in a Hattiesburg first-degree murder case.

On Monday afternoon, 61-year-old Michael Shanks made his first appearance in court.

His bond was denied, and he will remain behind bars.

Forrest County Coroner Lisa Klem also identified the victim of the shooting as 63-year-old Timothy Shanks from Petal.

He was pronounced deceased at Forrest General Hospital.

Klem could not identify the relationship between the victim and the suspect, but could confirm that they are related.

The shooting took place on Friday afternoon.
