YORK COUNTY, S.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- A tornado touched down near Brattonsville on Friday evening, May 30, but alarmingly, a tornado warning was never issued for the area.

According to the National Weather Service office in Greenville-Spartanburg, a storm survey team confirmed the tornado struck around 6:33 p.m., about four miles east of McConnells.

The tornado was rated an EF-0, the weakest rating, with estimated peak winds of 80 mph. It stayed on the ground for about a quarter-mile and reached a maximum width of 25 yards.

Thankfully, there were no reported injuries or deaths, but the tornado did snap several trees and caused minor damage to a barn and playground before dissipating in a wooded area.
