WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Two teenagers are facing citations and juvenile petitions after police say they were caught illegally riding an ATV and a moped in Winston-Salem over the weekend.

According to the Winston-Salem Police Department, officers spotted someone riding an ATV along West Clemmonsville Road around 9:41 p.m. on Saturday, May 31. The rider took off when officers approached.

A short time later, police found the ATV and a moped on Sage Meadows Drive. Investigators said both vehicles had been seen operating illegally.

A 16-year-old was identified as the ATV driver and was cited for multiple violations, including not registering the vehicle, not wearing a helmet, and missing required lights. A 14-year-old was found to be riding the moped and is facing juvenile petitions for drivin
