SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - The government is stepping up its warning about a serious and sometimes deadly disease. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention said the risk of contracting measles, especially while traveling, is increasing at an alarming rate.

With millions of Americans getting ready to head out on summer vacations, the CDC has updated its risk warning about measles.

On its website , the CDC writing in part: “Travelers can catch measles in many travel settings including travel hubs like airports and train stations, on public transportation like airplanes and trains, at tourist attractions, and at large, crowded events.”

The warning coming as we begin peak travel season from June through August after the agency recorded dozens of cases so far this year in travel
