TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCJB/Gray Florida Capital Bureau) - Hurricane season began Sunday, and while Floridians are no strangers to storm prep, this year’s season kicks off without the usual tax break on emergency supplies.
Floridians historically enjoyed a sales tax holiday on hurricane essentials like batteries, flashlights, and generators in early June while getting ready for the season. That’s not happening this year because the state legislature hasn’t approved a new budget.
“This season we’re seeing a little bit of a slow, but it’s still early in the season,” Eric Chorey, owner of Killearn ACE Hardware in Tallahassee, said.
