VALPARAISO — State Sen. Michael Bohacek, R-Michiana Shores, who received an award a few years ago for improving public safety across Indiana, was nearly four times the legal limit for drinking and driving when stopped by Michigan City police in January, while he and fellow lawmakers were in session, records show.
Bohacek is charged with three misdemeanor criminal counts of operating while intoxicated, including one of endangering others, records show. The charges were filed May 15, but kept sealed until Monday afternoon.
"Senator Bohacek was not immediately charged due to the Indiana Constitutional prohibition, as OWI is typically only a misdemeanor," LaPorte County Prosecutor Sean Fagan said when asked for comment.
