(KRON) -- Multiple lanes on the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge have been shut down Monday afternoon due to emergency maintenance, Caltrans announced in a press release. Maintenance crews located "unsound, spalling deck concrete on the upper deck" of the bridge near Pier 25. • Westbound (upper deck) One lane remains closed • One lane remains closed • Eastbound (lower deck) Lanes 1 and 2: Open Lane 3: First half mile remains closed • Lanes 1 and 2: Open • Lane 3: First half mile remains closed

Lane 1 will stay open in both directions as crews make repairs on the bridge, according to Caltrans. A pothole is the cause of the concrete found on the upper deck. The pothole is "small," according to Caltrans Chief of Public Affairs Bart Ney.
