SEATTLE — Seattle City Councilmember Cathy Moore is stepping down from office, citing health challenges. Her last day is July 7.

Moore was elected to represent north Seattle in 2023 and has a long record in public service as a judge, public defender, and the chair of the Seattle Human Rights Commission. Moore won the election in District Five two years ago by nearly 30 points.

“I've been having some health struggles, which have become more acute recently, and just trying to figure out what is the best timing,” Moore said in an interview with KOMO News. “I want to make sure that I pay attention to what my health needs are but also make sure that I'm not leaving District Five in a lurch.”
