COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - Allen University unveiled a bust on Saturday that honored the nine people who died in the 2015 mass shooting at Mother Emanuel AME Church in Charleston.

The event was sponsored by the Allen University’s Boeing Institute on Civility and took place at the Clyburn Center. The event was put on to honor the 10-year anniversary of the shooting and the Emanuel 9.

The Institute on Civility said that the occasion was “not only a moment of remembrance but a call to reflection and renewal.”

“The unveiling of the Emanuel 9 busts represents both an act of tribute and a renewed commitment to confronting hate with hope,” the institute said in a statement.
