LOWER EAST SIDE, Manhattan (PIX11) -- Dozens of residents who live in two Lower East Side NYCHA buildings are struggling to cook, with no gas service.

90-year-old Isreal Muniz has three hot plates set up in his kitchen just to make dinner, with no gas service.

Vernette Quick and Kanielle Hernandez say there are two buildings full of frustration. They are part of the tenant association at the Bracetti Plaza, a NYCHA development on the Lower East Side.

But this time, agitation has been replaced with action. Hernandez says it was just before Easter, a gas leak took out gas service to both of their buildings. A non-profit called Vision Urbana sprang into action, partnering with a restaurant called Casa Adela on Ave C.
