RICHARDSON, Texas — The University of North Texas projects a 25% drop in international student enrollment because of visa and "geopolitical" issues, causing a multi-million dollar budget hit, university officials said last month.

The Trump administration recently put a pause on student visa interviews and announced plans to expand visa vetting and revoke visas for some Chinese students , citing national security concerns.

In addition to the students caught in limbo, the universities they often pay full tuition to attend are scrambling.

UNT has focused on increasing its international student population in recent years, recently joining the ranks of two dozens schools with more than 8 thousand international students. More than half of graduate students at UNT are international student
