CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WCHS) — Hundreds of people are now coming forward who believe they had unnecessary hernia repair surgeries during planned bariatric surgeries at Charleston Area Medical Center, some even without permission.

This is all part of a major class action lawsuit filed against the hospital and two doctors, who no longer work there.

A female patient, who is part of the lawsuit, spoke with Eyewitness News anonymously. She said she began her journey at CAMC at the Weight Loss Center, where the end goal was gastric sleeve surgery. As her surgery date approached, Dr. Robert Shin, one the doctors named in the suit, took over her case and did an endoscopy. She said Dr. Shin then told her that she also needed a hernia repaired, even though she was not showing any signs or symptoms.
