CINCINNATI (WKRC) — As National Cancer Survivors Month begins, survivors and medical professionals are highlighting the impact of personalized treatment in extending lives beyond a cancer diagnosis.

Brant Karrick, a cancer survivor, shared his journey and what it felt like to first get the news.

"They did a biopsy on a lump on my neck and I went in to the surgeon that did it and he gave me the news - it's pretty earthshattering when you get it," said Karrick.

More than a decade ago, Karrick was treated with chemotherapy for a cancer of the immune system.

"It went away and I was happy about that until I was diagnosed with MDS, which is a form of blood cancer," Karrick said.

A bone marrow transplant has now left the musician cancer-free.
