Raleigh County, W.Va. — A home health nurse is charged with child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury after a nine-year-old child was taken to the hospital with a broken femur.

According to the criminal complaint - West Virginia State Police received a complaint from Ruby Memorial Hospital after a child was brought in with a broken femur on May 22, 2025.

Troopers said the hospital staff told them that it was alarming due to the femur being one of the hardest bones in the body to break and that the break had happened while the victim was alone with the home health nurse.

Troopers also said that the victim's guardian told them that the child had been left alone with Alisha Dawn Dowdy for three hours on May 22, 2025. When the guardian returned to the home around 2:00 P.M, they said t
