The Pioneer Valley softball team lost 12-6 to Madera Liberty in the CIF Central Section Division 3 championship game at Fresno State's Margie Wright Diamond Friday night, but the Panthers got some consolation during the weekend.

Pioneer Valley coach Kristina Sewell's team drew the No. 1 Division 4 seed in the CIF Southern Cal Softball Championships. Pioneer Valley drew a first-round bye and will play either No. 4 Arcadia Rio Hondo Prep or No. 5 Woodland Hills Taft in the semifinals of the six-team tournament at Pioneer Valley Thursday at 4 p.m.

Central Section Division 4 champion Woodlake is the No. 2 seed in the Division 4 Southern Cal regional. Woodlake has a first-round bye.
