LEE'S SUMMIT, Mo. —

A domestic violence call in Lee’s Summit escalated into a police shooting Sunday night , and authorities are now searching for the man accused of pulling the trigger.

Thomas Tolbert, 27, is wanted on five felony charges, including assaulting a law enforcement officer. Advertisement

The incident began when officers responded to a domestic disturbance call .

According to investigators, Tolbert allegedly choked a woman, grabbed her by the neck, and threw her to the ground.

When officers arrived, police say Tolbert opened fire, striking one officer four times.

A bullet-resistant vest is being credited with saving the officer’s life .
