A HIGH school state track championship has come to a controversial end.

Clara Adams, a sophomore at North Salinas High School, was disqualified from the California state championships.

Adams competed in the 400m finals for the state title, and came across the line to finish in first place.

After winning gold, she ran over to her father to grab a prop for a celebration.

Adams was handed a fire extinguisher, which she used to spray her cleats with, pretending they were on fire.

The celebration took place away from the other competitors, and Adams' father told the Monterey Herald that "She wasn't disrespecting anyone."

The California Interscholastic Federation didn't agree though, deeming the celebration to be unsportsmanlike.

Because of this decision, Adams was stripped of her 400
