A bid in Texas to establish one of the most unwieldy voting laws in the nation flamed out this week, but a broader effort backed by President Donald Trump to demand that voters throughout the country provide proof of citizenship is hardly dead. Not only could the Texas bill resurface, but three other states over the past nine months have adopted similar laws requiring voters to provide proof of citizenship, and a raft of others are considering them.
