A rescissions package is a request made to Congress to strip already-approved money from the budget.

Elon Musk, who last week left his government role leading DOGE, slashed roughly $150 billion from the executive branch, but some of those cuts cannot be made without congressional approval.

The White House is now looking to formalize $9.4 billion in reductions to foreign aid and government-backed public broadcasting like NPR and PBS. The White House said if Congress approves Tuesday's rescissions package, it may consider sending more.
