WASHINGTON — After the National Park Service announced Dupont Circle would be closed during WorldPride , D.C. Councilmember Zachary Parker said that will no longer happen.
Parker said D.C. Police Chief Pamela Smith decided to reverse the decision.
"I spoke with Chief Smith this morning and I'm glad to report that the decision to close DuPont Circle Park is being rescinded. The Park is central to the lgbtq community, and neighbors will be able to enjoy it this year for World Pride. Good news," Parker wrote in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Initially, NPS spokesperson Mike Litterst said D.C. Police and U.S. Park Police requested to shut down the park because of a pattern of disorderly and destructive behavior during previous Pride weekends. In 2023, the park's historic fountain
