MORRISVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) – Some of the popular trails at Lake Crabtree County Park officially closed on Sunday, but there is still pushback from the community.

Several people voiced their opinions during the Wake County Board of Commissioners meeting on Monday night, urging leaders to explore options to save the trails.

Raleigh-Durham International Airport, which owns the land, plans to finalize an agreement with a developer to create an entertainment destination. Wake County had previously leased the land from RDU for only $1 per year.

Airport officials say rules from the Federal Aviation Administration require them to get fair market value for the land.
