FALL RIVER, Mass. (WLNE)– The Fall River Fire Department rescued two people from a second-story window after a fire broke out early Monday morning on Emmett Street in the city.

The FRFD responded to a house on the street at 3:22 a.m., and found two people trapped on the building’s second floor, with heavy smoke throughout the building.

Both occupants were rescued via the fire department’s ladders.

Firefighters also rescued two dogs and one cat from the building, and another cat managed to escape on its own.

Another cat, however, was unable to make it out of the house, and died.

Both people rescued were evaluated for smoke inhalation and transported to Rhode Island Hospital.

The fire is still under investigation.
