KANSAS CITY, Kan. (KCTV) - A teen driver has been hospitalized with serious injuries after she was hit by a man reportedly evading arrest.

The crash happened around 10:20 p.m. on June 2.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported that law enforcement officers were chasing a suspect, Joel Rodriguez-Martinez, 57, on northbound Interstate 35. As they approached the ramp onto Interstate 635, Rodriguez-Martinez drove into the back of a teenager’s Kia Soul.

The crash pushed the Kia off the left side of the road into a utility box and a light pole. KHP said the driver, a 17-year-old girl, was wearing a seatbelt but was seriously injured. She was taken to the University of Kansas Medical Center.
