NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) – New York City public school students will get one extra day of winter break in the 2025-2026 school year, according to a notice to teachers.
Winter break will now run from Wednesday, Dec. 24, to Friday, Jan. 2. Students were originally expected to come back for classes on Friday, Jan. 2, according to an earlier version of the schools calendar. Including weekends, it means the students will now have 12 days off instead of 9.
The new change, first reported by the Daily News, means there will be less flexibility for teachers to reduce instructional days, according to a notice to New York City Public Schools teachers.
