Oklahomans will get the rare chance to fish without a license, thanks to the state’s annual Free Fishing Weekend happening June 7–8, 2025.

Typically, anyone 18 and older needs a fishing license to cast a line in state waters, but during these two days, the requirement is waived statewide. It’s all part of National Fishing and Boating Week — a time to get outside, enjoy nature, and maybe even introduce someone new to the sport.

'It’s the perfect chance to make some memories,' Oklahoma Game Wardens wrote in a social media post, adding: 'Not a trap — just a great time to fish.'

While the state license requirement is lifted, normal regulations still apply. Anglers hoping to fish for paddlefish will still need a free paddlefish permit, and some city-managed lakes may require separate permits
