A 141.6-acre property in northeastern Frederick County that lies within the core battle areas of three major Civil War battlefields was permanently protected through a conservation easement last month, according to a joint announcement by the Land Trust of Virginia (LTV) and the Shenandoah Valley Battlefields Foundation (SVBF).
The plot of land, which is called the McCann property, is 2.5 miles northeast of Winchester and fronts on both U.S. 11 and Va. 761. It was the setting for fighting during the Second and Third Battles of Winchester in 1863 and 1864 and the Battle of Rutherford's Farm in 1864.
