Johnathan Joss, an actor known for his roles on shows like "King of the Hill" and "Parks and Rec" was killed in Texas on Sunday, June 1.

San Antonio police confirmed to USA TODAY that officers responded to the reported shooting and found Joss injured in the roadway. They reportedly worked to save his life, but EMS pronounced him dead.

Sigfredo Alvarez Ceja, 56, was charged with murder and has been arrested. The investigation is ongoing.

In a statement released on social media , Joss' husband, Tristan Kern de Gonzales, said the neighbor was yelling homophobic slurs as he opened fire. He said Joss saved him in his final moments.

"He was murdered by someone who could not stand the sight of two men loving each other ," de Gonzales said.
