A significant migration from California to Texas has been underway since 2018 , with roughly 100,000 people making the move each year in search of a better life. Businesses are relocating , as are individuals — my family included. After two years in California, we sought a fresh start in Austin, unknowingly joining a wider movement.
California is beautiful with national parks, sun-kissed beaches, and Hollywood glamour. It also boasts a progressive reputation, yet its environmental contradictions are stark. Political compromises, pollution, traffic, and corruption drove us away. In Austin we sought sustainability, civic participation, and, of course, its quintessential weird vibe. For my family and many others, moving to Austin isn’t just a change of place but a chance to build, belo
