In a letter dated May 30, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's Deputy Legal Counsel Amy Lishinski wrote to MSU Board Chair Kelly Tebay that the request from March 2024 was denied.

An investigation, conducted by the law firm Miller & Chevalier, found that Trustees Rema Vassar, D-Detroit, and Dennis Denno, D-East Lansing violated the university's code of conduct.

Miller & Chevalier's investigation was sparked by a letter from Brianna Scott, D-Muskegon, to her fellow trustees and local media alleging 10 instances of then-Chair Rema Vassar's misconduct.
