LONG BEACH, Miss. (WLOX) - The Harrison County Board of Supervisors took the next step in the process to rebuild the Jim Simpson Pier in Long Beach, which was severely damaged by Hurricane Zeta in 2020.
On Monday, supervisors voted to send a new rebuilding plan to FEMA.
Since federal officials rejected an early idea of rebuilding with concrete, the county plans to rebuild the pier with wood and flow through decking.
The cost of the rebuild is estimated to be around $2 million, which is within the price range FEMA set for the project.
Though an official timeline on repair work has not been set, Harrison County Emergency Management Director Matt Stratton told supervisors, if all goes well, bids could go out this summer and construction could begin this winter.
