Tijema Brown, a daughter of Charlotte City Council member Tiawana Brown, has withdrawn a court petition seeking permission to visit Jamaica while she awaits trial on federal fraud charges.

Tijema Brown was indicted last month along with her mother and sister, Antionette Rouse. They are accused of defrauding the federal government of more than $124,000 in covid relief payments.

Each has pleaded not guilty.

The Charlotte Observer reported on Monday that Tijema Brown asked the U.S. District Court in Charlotte for permission to spend 35 days at the Ocean Eden Bay Resort in Montego Bay, beginning June 7. But Tijema Brown withdrew that request after media reports published details of her travel plans, including dates and location, her lawyer, Kimberly Y. Best, told QCity Metro.
