EAST BANK, W.Va. (WCHS) — The final day for classes in Kanawha County marked East Bank Middle School’s last time hosting students.

A closure approved last October for the school that opened in 1969 amid declining enrollment and financial concerns will impact the eastern portion of the county.

Most students will end up going to DuPont Middle School amid consolidation efforts in the county.

Eyewitness News spoke with seventh grade teacher Lacey Huffman on what the closure means to her community.

“There are so many new opportunities for everyone here to make new friends. There's going to be new classes in DuPont. It’ll open up a whole new world for some people, but for other people it will be extremely hard because there will be so many students,” Huffman said.
