HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) — For the first time in 13 years, Harrisburg schools are not supervised by the state.
The state handed the reins back to the school board during a signing ceremony on June 3, but the board will officially regain supervision at 11:59 p.m. on June 17. Today, Pennsylvania's top education leader discussed why this is a big moment for the school district.
"This district has done the hard work in regaining financial solvency, in restoring trust, and in rebuilding stability for over 6,400 of its learners," said Pennsylvania's acting Secretary of Education Carrie Rowe. "What once felt impossible has become a model for what is possible in this process when collaboration and dedication meet each other."
