COLUMBIA, S.C. — Instances of gun violence are becoming more common in society, so much so that June has been declared National Gun Violence Awareness Month.
The City of Columbia's Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement (ONSE) wants to slow the increase of gun-related incidents and is partnering with several community organizations to bring awareness of the problem and possible solutions to communities across the city. ONSE is hosting a series of informal workshops and activities during the month of June that will cover a variety of topics such as firearm safety and storage, conflict resolution, Internet safety, positive youth development, and anti-bullying. ONSE will also launch a new six-week interactive series aimed specifically at Columbia's youth called Power Up: Peace Mode.
