CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - For the second summer in a row, the Medical University of South Carolina is expanding its program, “Kids Eat Free at MUSC,” to serve even more counties in the state.
The program, which launched in 2015 to help children in the Greater Charleston area, is now growing to include sites in Chester, Kershaw, Lancaster and Orangeburg Counties.
Officials say the program has allowed MUSC to serve over 52,000 meals to children and teens during summer breaks over the past decade.
Last summer, MUSC medical centers in Florence, Marion and Black River launched the program in the Pee Dee area and, in just one month, served 5,310 meals in the area.
