CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - The Charleston Police Department is remembering a K-9 who served the agency for seven years before retiring.

K-9 Kektor has died, the agency announced Tuesday.

Alongside his partner, Master Police Officer Hall, Hektor kept the community safe, assisting in drug seizures, tracking wanted and often violent criminals and providing safety to officers with more than 1,200 deployments.

He also assisted the Charleston Police SWAT team, Major Warrants Unit and U.S. Marshals Task Force, police say.

“K-9 Hektor modeled loyalty, dedication, and an amazing work ethic, while also being a friend, companion, and an adored member of MPO Hall’s family,” the agency said in a release. “In retirement, K9 Hektor enjoyed lazy days around the house and family trips to the mountains.”
