An employee in the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office was arrested Monday, accused of stabbing a coworker at the Arrest Processing Center.
The Sheriff’s office identified the suspect as LaKisha Easter, a fingerprint examiner.
Easter was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.
In a statement, Sheriff Garry McFadden called the incident “isolated and extremely unfortunate.”
“No one expects violence to erupt in their place of work, and yet incidents like this remind us how critical it is to identify and address warning signs early,” he said in the statement.
The Sheriff’s office did not identify the injured employee, who sustained wounds described as serious but not life-threatening.
