David Richardson, the acting head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, was totally just joking and not at all serious when he told staffers that he didn’t know the US had a hurricane season, a spokesperson for the agency insisted on Monday.
Specifically, according to The Wall Street Journal , Richardson said during a briefing: “Yesterday, as everybody knows, [was the] first day of hurricane season. I didn’t realize it was a season.” Those remarks reportedly left FEMA employees “baffled” and unsure if he “meant it literally, as a joke, or in some other context.” In response, a spokesperson insisted to the outlet that “Despite mean-spirited attempts to falsely frame a joke as policy, there is no uncertainty about what FEMA will be doing this Hurricane Season. FEMA is laser foc
