The other day a lady came into our gallery with an interesting story to tell. Her grandfather was a prominent jeweler in the 1940s, and she had a number of bits from his store that she wanted to sell. The lot included jeweler’s tools, scales, loose gemstones, a refractometer and more.

But perhaps the most fascinating items were two manuscripts of lectures on diamonds and jewelry prepared by a New York public relations firm. They were carefully typed with tips on presentation at the beginning and scripts of a dozen or so pages thereafter. In reading through them, I was enchanted, and today’s column will recount some of the highlights.
