Approximately 0.15 miles of the Cape Point area is closed to ORVs and pedestrians to protect American oystercatcher chicks that are 2 days old and more than 80 least tern nests due to hatch over the next few days.

The Bypass Road remains open for walking to an approximately 1.03-mile pedestrian-only beach area to the south facing shoreline west of the bypass road; however, you would have to walk from the fish cleaning stations/entrance to ramp 44.

Access to the open beach area to the west of Cape Point can also be achieved by walking from the parking area at the end of South Beach Road.

Ramp 43 is still open as are about 90% of all ORV routes on Hatteras I
