Six hikers, including five juveniles, visiting Colorado from Texas were rescued last week from a Pueblo County mountain after a nearly 25-hour search “in steep and heavily wooded terrain,” according to the sheriff’s office.

The Texas group began a hike Friday morning on Greenhorn Mountain near Graneros Creek, southwest of Rye, according to a news release from the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office.

The hikers called the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office Communication Center at about 7:30 p.m. Friday to report they were lost and a volunteer search and rescue team immediately headed for the mountain, sheriff’s officials said in the release.
