PUTNAM COUNTY, W.Va. (WCHS) — Appalachian Power has announced modifications for a 20-mile stretch of transmission lines to avoid crossing the Meeks Mountain Trails in Putnam County . Aside from rebuilding lines, the project will upgrade substations in Putnam and Cabell Counties, according to a news release from the power company.

The original proposal was challenged by community members who voiced concerns over losing access to the network of manmade trails behind Hurricane City Park.

AEP has scheduled two open houses to address a rebuild in Bancroft and Milton, allowing residents to meet with workers and provide feedback on the project.

The sessions will take place at the Valley Park Conference Center in Hurricane from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 24 and Wednesday, June 25
